Speed dating? Sounds like a great time! So much so that she even signed up a few of her friends because they sure seem like they could use an event like this one (sorry not sorry, Izydor Baranowski).

Dressed to impress and full of unfaltering confidence, Ceri sits at a table, ready to meet her first “partner”. That is, of course, until she’s taken aback by the fact that the sight that greets her is all too familiar. Someone she has met before.

A black turtleneck and a pair of khakis he forgot to iron this morning is the best 'dressed to impress' Atlas had managed today. His life was still a bit of a mess, of course, but hey! At least he'd made it to this thing, right?

REX, the BOLTUND he'd employed during the investigation in which they'd met, is the first to notice her. It sprints from across the ballroom, weaving past other people and crawling beneath chairs and tables before excitedly reaching her with a wiggly butt.

Not far behind, Atlas jogs to keep up. He slows when he finds his dog propped up against her, rubbing the top of his head into her hand for pets as she acknowledges his trainer. With a goofy smile and a blush, Atlas idly rubs the back of his neck as he responds.

"Oh, wow... hey Ceri. I guess so!" He laughs, stepping forward to usher his dog down. The man leans down to offer her a warm hug afterwards, then retreats to sit back into his chair and scoot it a little closer.

"You look so different..." He remarks, admiring her with sparkling eyes before realizing the staring might come off as inappropriate. "Good, I mean! Er... I mean, you looked good before, right, but this is a different kind of good! Beautiful, even. And I, well, I— I'll shut up." Atlas chuckles, reaching down to pet his dog.

"How you been?"

While the Toxel that sits on her lap stares questioningly at the all too friendly dog, Ceri gladly reaches down to pet it – the sight of the Boltund bringing reminders of the day she met beckett carlson back at Slateport U.

Words said in a sweet tone while looking at Rex, but given the way she glances at Atlas, perhaps they’re meant for them both.

This in itself makes her laugh and her full attention turns to him, this time with a bright smile. ”Thank you, I’m glad to know you think I’m beautiful.”

Is it maybe that she likes tormenting him?

”I’ve been great! Busy with school and all, but you know how it is. How about you? Out here looking for dates?”

”Thank you, I’m glad to know you think I’m beautiful.”

"Uh... well, I always did..." Atlas mutters as his eyes bashfully flick away, suddenly hoping Ceri hadn't heard that as their conversation moves on.

"A-Ah! But yeah, that makes sense." He responds, looking back at her with a nod and a smile. "Toxicology, right? I've been up to the same stuff, mostly: chasing leads and helping out the SCPD whenever they need it." When she suggests he's out here looking for dates, however, he blushes a little and chuckles.

What happened to all that swagger? Why was admitting something like that suddenly so embarrassing a prospect to do in front of her?

"Can I fill you in on a secret?" He whispers, looking to and fro before leaning in close. "I thought this was a dog show. Rex sorta just... led me in here."

The dog comes out from beneath the table and sticks his head up from between them, tongue lolling out as Atlas leans back into his chair with a laugh. "How about you? I didn't know you had time to go on the market for a boyfriend, college girl." He says with affection.

She has to resist the urge to mention how cute he is, but the thought lingers in her mind when watching the way his gaze flicks away from hers. If only for a second, her smile is replaced by a slight smirk.

”Yup! Toxicology and biotech, I’m surprised you remember!” Then again, if he didn’t remember such simple details, he’d make a pretty bad detective, wouldn’t he? And he also wouldn’t sound very interested in her… ”I hope work’s been going well, though. Caught any baddies recently?”

Even though the thought hadn’t crossed her mind before, Ceri can’t help but wonder what Atlas would think of her own involvement with the criminal organisation…

Thankfully, he’s apparently pretty damn good at distracting her.

”A dog show? Atlas! Guess I can’t blame you, we are at the contest hall…” She laughs, the sound all too joyful and melodious. ”Bet Rex would have won if it were a dog show! Right, Rex?”

Ceri smiles sweetly when reaching the pet the Boltund once again, but when hearing Atlas’ next question, her attention turns to him, a response coming with a playful wink:

"No one notable," Atlas answers, choosing to exclude 'Timothy the Twink' from this conversation. "Just, y'know... run-of-the-mill criminals."

The laughter that follows after his shared secret, in the meantime, brings a genuine smile to his bright face, cleansing any residual self-doubt or timidity he held in his heart. Her affection towards Rex, as always, is a bonus, too. He admires the sight before she turns back to him and winks. "Oh, is that right..." He mutters.

Eyes shift to check the timer on their table. Not long left until the next round. It was now or never.

"... How about me?" He finally dares to ask, working up the courage to look back at her with a hint of a smirk. "Am I worth more than the minute left on our clock?" He'd ask for her number if he didn't already have it. More importantly, however, he was asking for her time.

Time for a proper date.

It’s speed dating. Ceri had known from the beginning that that meant spending a few minutes with someone and then moving onto the next, but while she had been more than pleased by the idea when signing up for this event, she now finds herself wishing that she could stay here and keep talking to him.

The moment he knows she's teasing, Atlas brightens. Only the ringing of the bell snaps him out of this happy stupor, and the blonde finds himself wondering where the minute went so quickly. She gets up from her chair in the meantime, stepping close before gracing him with a kiss on the cheek that sends his heart stammering.

He can hardly manage a word as she parts, looking up at her with a flushed expression as Rex tries (in vain) to get his attention by tugging at Atlas' wrist with the tip of his teeth. They were gonna get up and go with her, right? The dog thought.

"Y-Yeah," The man finally manages to stammer, turning in his chair to watch her walk away. "Til next time." And his smile is as bright as the sun.
